Audi Q3 Review

The Audi A3 is already known for having the finish and feel of an executive class car, and as if to reinforce the point, it now has a boot to complete the impression — the A3 Saloon series is now available in Sri Lanka.

The first booted A3 marks the start of the Vorsprung Durch Technik brand's entry into the world's largest market sector - the compact saloon class. It combines more seats-up load space than the A3 Sportback with great passenger comfort and performance similarly. The latter is aided by 'Audi ultra' lightweight building technologies that reduce weight to as little as 1,205kg.

The A3 Saloon's design combines the conventional three-box concept with the coup? Philosophy. It has short overhangs, and its "tornado line" design element creates a prominent light-refracting edge that spans the length of the side. The dynamic line rises more abruptly above the side sills than in the other two A3 variants.

The side surfaces are curved more pronouncedly, and the wheel arches are likewise somewhat flared. The bonnet contours, bumper, air intake design, and single-frame grille have all been revised for the newcomer while lighting with broad and low cuts emphasizes the car's horizontal lines and an integrated 'kicked-up' boot spoiler provides a purposeful air.

Interior

The exterior's sporty-progressive lines are mirrored in the inside of the A3. Like it, the cockpit curves around the driver does in larger Audi cars. The instrument panel is slim and level, floating above the visually light center console, which is tilted towards the driver. The interior of the A3 conveys a first-class appearance, reflecting Audi's high-quality standards. It is available in more typical black or titanium grey finishes and brighter colors like pashmina beige.

The rear seats can accommodate three people, and simple access is a standard convenience feature. The newly created front seats provide outstanding support and comfort, and their low mounting positions emphasize the three-door car's athletic character. The driver sits behind a redesigned steering wheel with three or four spokes and multi-function controls and shift paddles if an automatic transmission is installed.

The four enormous, circular air vents inspired by jet turbines are noteworthy. The airstream can be altered from a draft-free wide dispersion to a directed stream of ventilation air by pulling the nozzle at the center of each vent along its axis. The fascia of the air conditioning control panel is in Piano finish black.

Exterior

The A3 Sportback has a length of 4,460 millimeters, which is 150 millimeters longer, and a width of 1,796 millimeters, 11 millimeters wider. The A3 Saloon is also nine millimeters shorter, standing at 1,416 millimeters. The wheelbase is the same as the A3 Sportback at 2,636 millimeters, allowing ample passenger space between the axles.

The boot has a carrying capacity of 425 liters with the seats up, which is 45 liters more than the A3 Sportback. This capacity can be enhanced by folding down the split rear seatbacks. When the boot lid is unlocked, it immediately swings upward.

The A3 1.4 TFSI Saloon, which kicks off the line, has a curb weight of 1,205kg, demonstrating the stringent demand for 'Audi ultra' lightweight construction. Audi uses various hot-formed steel parts in the passenger compartment for low weight and maximum strength, and the aluminum bonnet and front suspension subframe also contribute to the lighter load.
