Honda Insight Review

The Honda Insight 2022 is the Civic hybrid's spiritual successor. The Insight is similar in size and appearance to Honda's small sedan. Still, it has an efficient gas-electric motor beneath the hood, making it quieter at low speeds and delivering more outstanding mpg. The Civic's best features, like a comfortable ride, a pleasant cabin, and precise handling, are present here. You'll give up a slight acceleration, and the Insight may be noisy when you stomp on it, but it's a nice-looking sedan that's not much more expensive than non-hybrid competitors and will save you money at the pump.

Insight outperforms most hybrids in matching quick acceleration with frugal fuel consumption. It's roughly as quick as many conventionally powered compact cars—and significantly faster than the hybrid competitors we've tested. Its mix of a gas engine and two electric motors produces 151 horsepower, propelling the Insight from zero to 100 kmph in 7.7 seconds. It can run for about a mile on its electric motor alone at modest speeds but request strong acceleration, and the gasoline engine will seamlessly kick in. The engine may become noisy under rapid acceleration, but Insight's drivetrain is otherwise quiet and refined.

The Insight is a delightful vehicle to drive. It is soft, comfy, and polished, and it handles with assurance. That's not surprising given that it's technically comparable to the Civic sedan, which shares the same characteristics. Although it isn't overly sporty, the Insight features a smooth ride and solid handling. Its soft suspension absorbs bumps nicely, and its fast steering allows it to change direction quickly. The Insight's brake pedal is predictable and progressive, with less of the clunkiness that mars the brakes of other hybrids. The brakes on the Insight feel just as secure as those on a regular, gas-powered vehicle.
